José Carlos Abissamra Filho

Doctor and Master in Criminal Law – PUCSP. Postgraduate in Economic Criminal Law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas – GVlaw. Postgraduate in Economic and European Criminal Law from the Institute of Economic and European Criminal Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences and Bachelor of Laws from the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Participated as a student in the summer seminar in U.S. Law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law – July 2014. Attended the Second International Forum of the Innocence Project in Argentina (2013).

Chief Coordinator of the Bulletin of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences – Ibccrim (2015-2016). Director of the Institute for the Defense of the Right to Defense – IDDD (2013 – 2022). Member of the Community Council in São Paulo (2013 – 2015). Member of the Special Commission on Criminal Procedure, the Special Commission on Criminal Law, and the Commission on Criminal and Penitentiary Policy of the Brazilian Bar Association – OAB SP (2019 – 2022). Deputy Coordinator of the Legal Aid School of the OABSP (2022-2024).

He is the President of the Special Commission on Criminal Advocacy of the OAB/SP (São Paulo Bar Association), as well as Coordinator of the Permanent Commission on Rights and Prerogatives of the OAB/SP. He is a professor at the Escola Paulista de Direito – EPD (Postgraduate specialization in Criminal and Procedural Law).
